1. How-to post

How-to posts aren’t just one of the most popular types of blog posts to write. They’re also insanely valuable for both your audience and you.

Why?

They’re valuable for your audience because they help them solve a problem or answer a question. These are the types of questions or problems that your audience searches for on Google and other search engines. So by writing blog posts on them, you also make it more likely that your business will show up in search engine results. In other words, how-to posts help you too by boosting your SEO.

You can write how-to posts to explain how to complete a task or skill that’s relevant to your audience (e.g., how to prep a couple for an engagement photography shoot). Alternatively, you can use them to teach your audience how to use a product or tool you’ve created.

2. Video tutorial

Video is all the rage these days. So if you’re willing to get creative behind (or in front of) the camera, consider creating a video version of a how-to tutorial.

For example, if you sell a cooking tool and typically share recipes that you can make with it, try creating a video tutorial of a recipe.

3. Ultimate guide

The ultimate guide is essentially either of the previous two blog post ideas on steroids. It’s an in-depth post on a topic, process, or skill that gives your audience all the essential information they need to accomplish something.

For instance, in my SEO for Blog Posts ebook, I explain exactly how to do basic on-page SEO for blog posts even if you don’t have a tech bone in your body.

4. List of hacks

There’s something that pretty much everyone wants to do: save time. That’s why you can score major points with your audience by writing a blog post that gives them a list of relevant hacks for getting a task done faster or more easily.

For example, if you help people create email marketing campaigns, you can create a list of hacks for setting up a campaign on a particular platform.

5. Biggest mistakes

Approach any of the previous blog post ideas from the opposite angle by telling your audience what NOT to do or what doesn’t work. It’ll save them a lot of time, energy, and frustration. And for that, they’ll be pretty darn grateful!

If you’re a vegan bakery, for example, you can write a post on the 10 biggest mistakes people make when baking a vegan cake.

6. Expert interview

Your blog post ideas don’t have to stem just from your own knowledge or expertise. You can also deliver value to your audience by sharing tips, resources, or insights from other sources.

With the expert interview, you interview a relevant expert in your industry and share it in a blog post. You can either provide an edited transcript of the interview or share the actual audio or video file.

For example, if you teach people how to become social media managers, you could share an interview from someone who’s built a highly successful business by being an outstanding social media manager.

7. Top industry blog posts

Want to share resources on topics that are relevant but outside your main areas of expertise? Write a blog post that identifies top blogs or blog posts in your industry.

For instance, if you’re a makeup artist, you might share a post on the top industry blog posts for learning how to buy eco-friendly makeup.

8. Best tools or apps

This is like the previous blog post idea. But instead of being a list of industry blog posts, it’s a list of the best tools or apps for performing a specific task.

For example, let’s say that you teach yoga instructors how to start their own studio. You could use this blog post idea to give your audience a list of the best tools or apps for running their new business.

9. Industry product review

Using this blog post idea is basically like taking one item from a best tool or app post and doing a dip dive on it. In other words, you identify a product or tool created by another business and write a review on it. This helps your audience understand the pros and cons of a product so they can make a decision about whether to invest in it themselves.

If you teach people how to become professional photographers, for example, you might do a product review on a particular camera lens.

To avoid creating bad blood with competitors, stick to products you don’t compete with when writing these kinds of posts.

10. Unique value proposition

Want to help your audience understand why they should choose you over your competitors when looking for free resources, booking services, or buying products? Write a post that tells them what sets you apart from your competition.

For example, does your product have a longer battery life? Do you offer better support? Are your services more customizable?

Whatever it is that makes you stand out, describe it in a way that’s crystal clear to your audience.

11. Product or service FAQ

Looking for blog post ideas isn’t hard when you get tons of questions about your product or service. That’s because you can take the most frequently asked questions and answer them in a blog post. If you have lots of FAQs, you can even write multiple posts on different products, services, or subtopics.

12. New product or feature

Have a new product or an updated one with new features? Highlight them in a blog post. You can even use video to showcase your new product or demo new features.

13. Case study

What’s better than telling your audience how awesome you are? Showing them. And one of the best ways to do this is to present a case study of customer or client success.

For example, if you’re a personal finance coach, you can share a case study on how your coaching helped a client dig her way out of massive debt.

Case studies can be more powerful than testimonials or reviews because they illustrate the incredible results that a person or business achieved because of your product or service.

14. Behind the scenes

Social media isn’t the only place you can take your audience behind the scenes of your business. You can also do it on your blog by writing a post about your team, an event you’re preparing for, or an upcoming launch.

This type of post can humanize your business, help your audience get to know you, and give you the chance to drum up excitement about a launch or event.
